Turner, Heard Dominate in Sprints

Houston - Senior Jon turner ran an impressive 6.86 in the 60m to lead the Owls on Saturday at the Houston Invitational. Turner, a four-year football letterman, beat out Houston's Ed Turner by a margin of .06 to take home the gold medal. He also placed 4th in the 200m behind teammate Bubba Heard. Heard took away another Rice 1st with a time of 21.99 in the 200m.

Other gold medals went to Brad Morris in the 5K and Phillip Adam in the pentathlon. Adam pulled ahead of the competition beating out UH's Morgan Floyd by an impressive 99 points.

Freshman standout Clay Baker destroyed the school record in the weight throw with a mark of 14.32m/46-11.75, a record he set just last week at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Meet. He also placed 4th in the shot put with a throw of 15.58m/51-01.50.

Other top finishers for the Owls included Ugo Nduaguba, 2nd in the Triple Jump, Scott Zivick, 4th in the 800m, and Jason Colwick, 5th in the pole vault. Connor Hayes placed 6th in the pentathalon.

The Owl's will compete on February 16 at both the Husky Invitational in Seattle and the All-Comers Meet at the University of Houston.
