HOUSTON - Rice sophomore Charlie Card-Childers closed out the final day of the Houston Invitational with a third place finish amongst collegiate competitors in the men's heptathlon Saturday afternoon at Yeoman Fieldhouse.
Card-Childers, who was competing in his first career heptathlon, entered the final three events in second place and finished fifth overall after final marks of 9.11 (60m hurdles, 8th), 3.80m (pole vault, 7th) and 3:00.10 (1000m, 8th). The Houston native concluded the event with 4732 total points, trailing only Houston Baptist's Garrison Fick (5040 points) and Louisiana-Monroe's Isaac Grieder (4816 points).
Junior Filip Drozdowski placed sixth amongst all collegiate competitors in the semi-finals of the 60m hurdles, matching his time of 8.22 in the prelims Friday.
Junior William Roberts competed in his first events of the indoor season on Saturday, placing 12th amongst collegiate competition in the 800m (1:58.21) and 11th in the mile (4:22.73).
Rice will next compete at the Charlie Thomas Invitational hosted by Texas A&M next Friday and Saturday, Feb. 5-6. The Owls will then have one more warmup meet (Feb. 12, Howie Ryan Invitational) before the C-USA Championships Feb. 24-25 in Birmingham, Ala.
