Gross, Pillow Victorious In Season-Opening Meet
Men place ninth at Texas A&M Team Invite

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Rice's men's track and field team kicked off the 2014 indoor season with a ninth place finish at the Texas A&M Team invitational Saturday afternoon at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.
Rice had three top-five finishes, including wins in the long jump and pole vault by Justin Gross and Chris Pillow, respectively. Gross, a junior from Randallstown, MA, won the long jump with a distance of 24-4 ½ (7.43m) to fend off TCU's Cameron Echols-Luper.
Pillow, a junior from Mechanicsville, VA, won the pole vault with a height of 17-1.5 (5.22m) to beat UTSA's Taylor Reed.
The Owls other top-five finish came from sophomore middle distance runner Harry Sagel, who placed fifth in the mile run with a time of 4:18.20.
The Owls return indoors for the Howie Ryan Invitational at the UH Athletics/Alumni Center on Jan. 31-Feb. 1.
