The Rice men's track and field team did not field a full squad for the Leonard Hilton Memorial, but NCAA Indoor and Outdoo champion pole vaulter Jaso Colwick picked up where left off. Colwick set a new Rice indoor record for the pole vault as he cleared 5.62m/18-5.25 in winning at the University of Houston's Leonard Hilton Memorial at Yeoman Fieldhouse. Colwick's mark is an automatic qualifying mark for the NCAA Indoor Championship and is the fouth-best mark in the world for 2010.

Chris Kato was fifth in the pole vault with a mark of 4.80m/15-9.00. Clay Baker placed seventh in the weight throw with a mark of 15.65m/51-4.25.

Colwick, a senior from San Marcos, Texas, won the NCAA Indoor (5.60m/18-4.5) and NCAA Outdoor (5.70m/18-8.25) pole vault titles in 2009. Prior to the NCAA Outdoor Championship, Colwick had cleared the nation's number one height and fourth in the world for 2009 at 5.72m/18-9.25.
