2004 WAC Champion, 4x400m

Rice - 2004: Took fifth at the WAC outdoor championships in the 400 meters with the second-best time of the season by an Owl, 47.95... Ran the second leg of Rice's 4x400-meter relay squad that won the WAC outdoor crown... Placed seventh at the WAC indoor championships in the 400... Ran the third leg of the Owls' 4x400 the finished second at WAC indoors. 2003: Primarily ran the 400-meter hurdles... Recorded a season-best 55.52 in a second-place finish at the Rice Bayou Classic... Ran the lead-off leg of Rice's 4x100-meter relay that took bronze at the WAC outdoor meet... Redshirted the indoor season.

High School - A 2002 graduate of Klein Oak high school in Spring... Three-year letterwinner for coache Gerald Stewert and the Panthers... Finished fifth in the state in the 300 hurdles as a senior... Member of the distance medley relay team that took first in the state...Was the district and regional 300 hurdle champion... Also won district in the 100 meters... Was a three-year team captain and high-point award winner... Also a two-year starter and letterwinner for the Panther football team... Also recruited by Oregon and Tulane... Chose Rice because of the academic standards and coaching staff.

Personal - Full name is Charles Eric Spear... Born July 8, 1983 in Houston... Son of Charles and Phyllis Spear of Houston... Has three sisters... Father played baseball at Rice from 1962-66... Sister, Kathy, was a member of the Baylor women's soccer team from 1987-91... Sister Kristi played club soccer at Rice from 1989-93... Sister, Naomi, competed in soccer at Texas Tech in 1991... Brother-in-law, John Davis, was a member of the Owls football team from 1988-92... Undecided on a major... Baker College.
