Rice men’s tennis coach Efe Ustundag announced Monday the addition of two players for the upcoming spring season in addition to a third player who will join the Owls next season. Conrad Russell (Palo Alto, California) and Sumit Sarkar (New York City) will join the Owls in January, while Adam Oscislawski (Scottsdale, Arizona) will join the team during the 2018-19 campaign.
“We are very excited to have Conrad, Sumit and Adam join the team,” Ustundag said. “All three are among the toughest players in the country. Both Conrad and Sumit are ranked as five-star recruits and ranked in the national top 40 while Adam is currently a four-star player and ranked 66th. All three will be big time contributors to this program for the next 4 years.”
Sakar competed for the Collegiate School in New York City for three years before completing his education at The Dwight School while competing in ITF Junior events. He has posted a 28-21 record in singles and a 29-19 mark in doubles this year while rising to his current ITF ranking of 125. Most recently, he reached the semifinals of the ITF Orange Bowl International in doubles.
Russell captured the singles title at the USTA National Level 2 Tournament in Tucson in July and was the top ranked U18 player in the Norther California Section. He was ranked as high as 37th in the national U18 rankings this past year.
Oscislawski is currently the second-ranked player in Arizona and 12th in the southwest region in addition to his national ranking of #66 by Tennis Recruiting.net.
The Rice men’s tennis team will open its 2018 dual season on January 14 when they host a doubleheader against UTRGV (11 a.m.) and Prairie View A&M (4 p.m.).
