Natalie Beazant and Tommy Bennett have been named to 2014 Conference USA Tennis All-Academic joining ten other honorees selected by the league's media relations directors for the sport. Honorees must hold a minimum 3.2 GPA and have competed in at least 75 percent of their team's scheduled matches.
This marks the second consecutive year Beazant has been honored. The junior from Leigh, England is completing her third season playing in the No. 1 singles spot for the Owls, who will begin defense of their C-USA title on Friday in Norfolk, Virginia. Beazant has compiled a 3.31 GPA in sport management in the classroom and is a three-time member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll. She was the 2012 C-USA Freshman and Player of the Year and became Rice's first women's tennis All-American since 1986 when she reached the round of eight in 2013.
Bennett was named to the team for the first time. The sophomore from Lewes, England was named a 2013 ITA Men's Scholar Athlete Award as a freshman and maintains a 3.70 GPA as an economics major.
He moved into the top spot in the Rice men's singles lineup, posting a 4-4 record. He has missed the last four matches due to an injury and is listed as day-to-day heading into the Owls' first-round match against Middle Tennessee State on Friday in the first round of the C-USA Men's Championship, which is being hosted by the University of Tulsa.
