The Rice men's tennis team will put its three-match winning streak on the line this weekend as the Owls host Texas A&M Corpus Christi and No. 67 Tulane in the 56th Rice Invitational presented by Wyndham Houston Medical Center at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.
Action kicks off at noon on Friday when the Owls face off against the Islanders. Tulane and Texas A&M Corpus Christi will meet on Saturday at noon and then the Owls and Green Wave close out the weekend with a noon match on Sunday.
This year's play opens 55 years to the day when the first Rice Invitational completed play at the Golfcrest Country Club in Houston. The event originally crowned both a team and singles champion before moving to solely a team event in 1989. Rice's Art Foust, who had teamed with Ronnie Fisher to win the SWC Doubles title in 1958 and would do so again in 1959, upset the top-seeded Fisher to claim the inaugural Rice Invite singles crown.
The Owls will be back on the road following the Rice Invitational, traveling to College Station on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. match with No. 12 Texas A&M.
