The 55th ranked Rice Men's Tennis team will get an early start to their 2013 spring season when they host players from five other schools this weekend for the Rice/MET Tournament. Tournament action gets under way at 9 a.m. on Friday at the The Downtown Club at The Met in Houston (340 West Dallas Street). Action will continue on Saturday with finals set for Sunday.
The Owls will take on players from Texas A&M, TCU, Prairie View, Portland and Columbia during the three-day event.
"This was an chance to get our guys on the court and get back into competition right away," first year Rice head coach Efe Ustundag said. "We've got a pair of very tough matches next week to kick off the dual season, so we wanted to have an opportunity to get back on the courts as soon as possible."
After the opening tournament, the Owls will host a pair of top 30 teams at Jake Hess next weekend to kick off the 2013 dual season. They will host 29th ranked Texas Tech on January 19 and face No. 11 Mississippi State on January 21. Both matches are set to begin at 1 p.m. at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.
