Rice sophomore Eric Rutledge advance to the semifinals in singles and teamed with Oscar Janglin for win in doubles to complete and unbeaten opening day of the Rice Fall Invitational at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on Friday.
Rutledge dropped Patrick Sklenka of Air Force and Andres Torres of UNC Wilmington in the Blue Singles Flight to advance to Saturday's semifinals where he will meet Tim Ruetzel of Tulane. He opened Friday play by joining with Jangle to grind out a tiebreaker win over Air Force's Tadhg Collins and Mack Galvin.
Jaglin split his first two singles matches, picking up a win over Gabriel Evans of Incarnate Word.
Play resumes on Saturday at 9 a.m. with the second round of doubles.
