Tommy Bennett and David Warren saw their dreams of closing their Rice careers by earning All-American honors come of a halt as they fell to Baylor’s Juan Benitez and Will Little, 6-3, 6-2 in the opening round of the NCAA Men’s Doubles Championship in Athens, Georgia on Thursday.
The Owls’ duo, who became the first Rice doubles team to earn a repeat appearance in the NCAA doubles since Richard and William Barker in 2003 & 2004, could never gain any momentum against the Bears’ 22nd ranked tandem, who= held serve throughout both sets and jumped out to commanding advantages in both sets.
Bennett and Warren closed the season with a 15-8 overall mark as a tandem. Warren closed his career with an overall doubles mark of 70-51 while Bennett wrapped his career with a 61-41 record in doubles.
