The 69th ranked Rice men's tennis team closed out a weekend road swing to Oklahoma by dropping a 5-0 decision to the 11th ranked Oklahoma Sooners on Sunday afternoon at Headington Family Tennis Pavilion in Norman.
The Owls were undermanned heading into the match due to injuries and the need to sit several players to stay under the NCAA limit of spring regular season matches. Rice was forced to forfeit matches at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles,
The Sooners combined the forfeit and a win on Court 2 to take the doubles point, and wrapped the match up with straight set wins on courts 5, 3 and 2. Philipp Seifert, making his first appearance at No. 1 singles and Leif Berger, playing on Court 4, had did not finish their matches.
The Owls return to Jake Hess Tennis Stadium on Wednesday when they host UTSA and Prairie View in a doubleheader. The Owls will face the Roadrunners at 1 pm and come back to face the Panthers at 5 pm.
