The Rice Owls men's tennis team won their sixth consecutive dual match by once again rallying out of an early deficit to turn back SMU, 4-3 in Dallas on Friday.
For the third consecutive match, the Owls were able to absorb the loss of the doubles point and capture the match. Straight set wins by Christian Saravia, Michael Nuesslein and Jonathan Chang put the Owls in clinching position and senior Sam Garforth-Bles rallied from a first set 6-1 loss to win 12 of the final 14 games in his next two sets to deliver the clinch point for the Owls (14-5, 3-0).
Nuesslein's win was his 11th consecutive win in singles this season and ran his season record to 15-1. Saravia improved to 11-2, including a 5-1 mark since moving into the #2 position in the order.
The Owls will remain in the Metroplex for a Sunday matchup with 48th ranked TCU on Sunday in Ft. Worth.
They return to Jake Hess Tennis Stadium next weekend for a pair of dual matches against Texas A&M Corpus Christi (Friday) and Oklahoma (Sunday).
