Texas A&M's 12th ranked men's tennis team fought back several strong challenges by Rice on the way to a 7-0 win over the Owls on Tuesday night at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station.
Rice (7-10) came into the match riding a five-match winning streak, looking to pick up its first win over the Aggies since 2009. After dropping the doubles point, the Owls put up a fight in singles, taking a pair of matches to three sets and forcing a tiebreaker on another to 24 points before falling.
Junior Srikar Alla faced off against the Aggies 13th ranked Harrison Adams and extended him to three sets before falling 7-5, 3-6, 6-3. Sophomore Gustavo Gonzalez could not maintain his early momentum against A&M's Max Lunkin, falling in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.
Rice will be have nine days off before returning to the court for a doubleheader vs. UTSA and Abilene Christian on Thursday, April 3 which will wrap up the 2014 home schedule.
