The Rice men's tennis team needed to travel 90 miles and move indoors, but the trip was worth the effort as they blanked Texas Pan American 6-0 indoors at the Galleria Tennis & Athletic Club to complete a shutout Saturday for the Owls.
Rice and Lamar kicked off the day's schedule with a match at the Cardinals' Thompson Family Tennis Center under threatening skies. They made quick work of the match, grabbing the doubles point and then picking up straight set singles wins from Srikar Alla, Adam Gustafsson and Max Andrews.
The match was halted at that point in order to allow the Owls to prepare for the second half of the doubleheader against UT-Pan American, but heavy rains soon followed and the two teams were forced to make the drive to Houston in order to move indoors and complete the day's schedule.
The order of the match was reversed, with singles played first and the Owls again started fast and raced to straight set wins in all six matches to win their third straight dual and improve to 5-9 on the season.
They will be back on the court next weekend, hosting Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Friday and Tulane on Sunday at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.
