Conrad Russell picked up a three-set win after dropping the first set, but 31st ranked Texas Tech swept to wins on the remaining courts to post a 6-1 win over Rice at the McLeod Tennis Center in Lubbock on Sunday.
Tech took an early lead by grabbing the doubles point and moved to them clinch with straight set wins on courts five, three and one.
Russell shook off a 6-3 loss in the first set to Tech’s Artem Kapshuk to post a 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 decision and raise his overall dual mark to 7-3. His seven dual wins rank second on the Owls.
Rice returns to home next weekend to host Texas at 1 p.m. on Saturday before departing on their Spring Break trip to participate in the University of San Diego and San Diego State Spring Invitational.
