An injury-depleted Rice men's tennis team battled 10th ranked Mississippi State for over three hours before the Owl fell 5-2 at the McLeod Tennis Center in Lubbock on Saturday.
The Owls were without freshman Max Andrews, who has been playing at the third spot in the singles lineup, due to an injury. They picked up points from sophomore Tommy Bennett, who downed the Bulldogs' 39th ranked Malte Stropp, taking a third set tiebreak buy a 10-8 score.
Freshman David Warren, from Houston's Kinkaid School added the Owls second point with a three-set win over Zach White.
Rice will be back on the courts on Sunday morning, facing host Texas Tech in a match moved indoors and up to 9 a.m. because of weather concerns.
