The Rice men's tennis team maintained its momentum from Friday, winning all 11 matches vs. The Citadel on Day Three of the UCF Quad Invitational in Orlando Florida on Saturday.
No team scores are kept during the competition and all matches are following the ITA's new scoring rules for the early portion of the college dual season. The sets are No Ad and receiver's choice on the deuce points. Tiebreakers are played at 5-5 in each set.
The Bulldogs were down to six players for the matches, so Shrikar Alla, Adam Gustafsson and David Warren were limited to playing doubles.
Five of the six singles matches were captured in straight sets, but freshman Henrik Munch had to battle to complete the sweep. After dropping a tiebreak in the opening set to Peter Bleach, Munch evened the match with a 6-2 win in the second set and the two players battled to the wire in the deciding third set before Munch won it in a tiebreak.
The Owls wrap up action on Sunday when they face at the UCF Tennis Complex. The will open the 2014 dual season next weekend when they face a pair of nationally ranked opponents. They will host 20th ranked Texas at 6 p.m. on Friday night at the MET in downtown Houston. They open the final year of play at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium on Sunday when they host #24 LSU at noon.
