HOUSTON, Texas - Rice University head golf coach Justin Emil announced the signing of Alexander Villarreal-Levy to a National Letter of Intent for 2013-14 on Friday.
Emil noted, "Alexander is a very talented player who brings both local and national tournament success along with a solid work ethic to our program. He is an excellent student and will thrive in the learning environment that Rice has to offer. I am very impressed with his personal and competitive character. He will no doubt make an immediate impact on the team and the future of Rice Owl Golf."
The senior from Stephen F. Austin High School in Austin, Texas has picked up three wins since April, including the Texas 5A Regional tournament with a two-round score of 69-71-140.
Villarreal-Levy also claimed first at the Greyrock Junior Championship in June with a 76-73-149 and the AJGA Aaron's / Bob Estes Abilene Junior with a 73-71-68-212.
He has claimed nine top-five finishes dating back to December 2011.
He is the son of Gerald Levy and Christine Villarreal-Levy.
The Owls recently wrapped up their fall slate, and open the 2013 spring season on Feb. 4-5 with the Rice Invitational.
