HOUSTON -- Rice golf coach Justin Emil announced the release of the Owls 2017-18 schedule Thursday afternoon. The Owls will compete in 11 tournaments, including four in the state of Texas.
"I'm very pleased with the way our schedule took form for the coming season," said Rice head coach Justin Emil. "We have some great events ahead of us and the team will get a shot at some of the best teams in the country. Our goal each season is to give ourselves an opportunity to compete for championships and this year's schedule puts us in a position to do that."
Rice will begin the season for the eighth consecutive season at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate, played Sept. 11-12 in Hattiesburg, Miss. The tournament will be hosted by Conference USA foe Southern Miss. Last year, the Owls finished in fifth-place, their best-ever finish in the tournament.
Two weeks later, the Owls will travel to Scottsdale, Ariz., for the Maui Jim Invitational (Sept. 22-24), hosted by Georgia State. It is Rice's first trip to Arizona since the 2009 Arizona Intercollegiate.
Rice will then team with Houston and Sam Houston State to co-host the Bayou City Collegiate Championship in Pearland at Golfcrest Country Club, Oct. 9-10. It is the sixth straight season that they co-host the event. Last year, the Owls took a fourth-place finish in the tournament, their best-ever.
The Owls close the fall slate Oct. 28-29, when they travel to Mobile, Ala., for their second straight visit to the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational, hosted by South Alabama.
The spring campaign begins with four tournaments in four weeks, starting Feb. 16-18 at the All-American. Rice co-hosts the event with Houston, which will be played in Humble, Texas at the Golf Club of Houston. This will be the third straight year that the Owls will participate in the event and the 40th time overall.
The squad then travels to Lafayette, La., for the Louisiana Classics, played Feb. 26-27 and hosted by Louisiana-Lafayette. Rice will be playing in the event for the first time since 2009.
A week later, Rice travels to Cabo, Mexico for one of the premier college golf events on the calendar, the Querencia Cabo Intercollegiate (Mar. 4-6). It then makes its first appearance at the Bob Sitton Invitational, Mar. 12-14 and played at the TPC Four Seasons in Dallas.
Rice then travels to San Antonio for the Lone Star Invitational, Mar. 19-20, hosted by C-USA foe UTSA. The Owls close the regular season at the Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate in Nashville, Tenn., Apr. 9-10.
The Conference USA Championship will take place in Texarkana, Ark., for the fourth consecutive year and the seventh time overall, Apr. 22-25.
NCAA Regionals take place May 14-16 at campus sites, with Oklahoma State hosting the NCAA Championship in Edmond, Okla., May 25-30.
