Rice University men’s golf stormed to the Conference USA Championship on Tuesday in Oklahoma and will learn its NCAA Tournament regional destination on Monday, May 5. The Golf Channel will air the selections for the event beginning at 9 a.m. during the show Morning Drive.
The Owls will host a watch party on campus in Tudor Fieldhouse’s Trauber Suite, beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday.
Rice earned the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by rallying from fourth place to first in Tuesday’s final round of the C-USA Championship. Rice’s third-round score of 286 was the lowest by three strokes and allowed head coach Justin Emil’s squad to take the lead into the clubhouse. The lead held up as the final groups finished the day as the Owls claimed a one-stroke win over No. 18 UAB.
Rice last made an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2010, when the squad placed 11th at the South Central Regional.
Morning Drive will be streamed live on Golf Channel’s website via Golf Live Extra at golfchannel.com and posted afterward on ncaa.com. The selections news release will be available on ncaa.com immediately following completion of Morning Drive.
Selection coverage will be just the start of coverage of the 2014 Division I Men’s Golf Championship by Golf Channel. The network will provide highlights from regional play (May 15-17) leading up to coverage of the 2014 championship to be held May 23-28 at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan., hosted by Wichita State. Golf Channel will provide live coverage of the final day of individual championship play on May 26 as well as the team match play on May 27-28.
