Golf Begins C-USA Championship Quest on Sunday
Owls vie for Conference USA title at Oak Tree Country Club

EDMOND, Okla. – Rice University men’s golf and 13 other teams will converge on Oak Tree Country Club to compete for the 2014 Conference USA Championship over three days , April 27-29.
The Owls have had a productive spring leading up to the tournament, including five top-10 finishes in six events with nine individual top-20 finishes. Three golfers return to the C-USA Championship from last year’s lineup, which took home 11th in Texarkana, Ark.
Rice has faced eight C-USA foes already this season, posting a 7-10 record in those meetings. The Owls are 55-75-3 overall on the 2013-14 season. UAB enters the event ranked 18th nationally, followed by No. 56 Middle Tennessee and No. 69 Charlotte.
Each round tees off at 8 a.m. at Oak Tree, a 7,100-yard Pete Dye design which also annually hosts the Oklahoma State Championships.
Rice is paired with Old Dominion and UTSA for the opening round. The groups will tee off from the 10th hole beginning at 9:12 a.m.

Stroke Average: 75.15 | Low Round: 69
Led the Owls in two-straight March tournaments, including a seventh-place finish at the Bandon Dunes Championship and 20th at the Lone Star Invitational. This tournament marks his third C-USA appearance after placing first on the team and 38th overall as a freshman in 2012 and tied for fourth on the squad and 56th overall last season.
James Lee, So., Albuquerque, N.M.
Stroke Average: 74.88 | Low Round: 69
Solid presence in the lineup averages 73.3 strokes over his past seven rounds, including top-30 finishes at the Lone Star Invitational and Mason Rudolph Championship. As a freshman, Lee competed in the 2013 Conference USA Championship, finishing third on the team and 51st overall.
Alex Levy, Fr., Austin, Texas
Stroke Average: 75.81 | Low Round: 70
Rookie has come on strong in the spring with a 74.5 stroke over 14 rounds, compared to a 77.33 average in the fall (2.83 stroke improvement). Levy owns the team’s top individual finish of the season with second place at the Rice Intercollegiate. He followed that performance up with a second-straight finish under par at the Bayou City Collegiate Championship.
Landon Michelson, Sr., Miami, Fla.
Stroke Average: 74.72 | Low Round: 70
The squad’s lone senior ranks second on the team in stroke average and is one of two golfers to compete in all 10 events so far this season. Michelson has been among the team’s top two finishers in six tournaments and has placed in the top 20 three times. His best finish was 12th place at the Bandon Dunes Championship. He led Rice in the 2013 Conference USA Championship with an 18th-place finish and a low round of 70.
Kevin Reilly, Fr., Oviedo, Fla.
Stroke Average: 72.72 | Low Round: 66
Freshman has had a breakout season, leading the Owls in stroke average through 10 tournaments. Reilly has placed in the top 20 in six events and has been the team’s leader six times. He placed 10th at the Ram Masters Invitational in September, seventh at The Invitational at The Ocean Course to close out the fall and took home ninth at the Bayou City Collegiate Championship.
