Carmona, Meissner Named to C-USA All-Academic Team

HOUSTON, Texas — Juniors Mario Carmona and Mitchell Meissner were named to the 2017 InTouch Credit Union Conference USA Men’s Golf All-Academic Team, announced Thursday afternoon by the conference office.

It is the second time that two golfers have earned the honor, joining Carmona and James Lee lasts year. Members must have a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and have participated in 75% of your scheduled tournaments this season. Candidates should be a sophomore class standing.

Carmona is the first Owls to earn C-USA All-Academic honors in consecutive seasons and just the second golfer to twice be named to the squad. He has a 3.632 GPA in Mathematical Economic Analysis & Sport Management. He is a three-time member of the C-USA Academic Honor Roll who has twice been honored with the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award Athlete. The Houston native has participated in all 11 tournaments this year, teeing off in the No. 1 position 10 times…He leads the team with a 72.20 stroke average in 30 rounds this year with two top five and four top 10 finishes. He has a team-high 15 rounds of par or better.

Meissner has a 3.880 GPA in Mathematical Economic Analysis & Sport Management. He is a three time honoree of the Conference USA Academic Honor Roll and the C-USA Academic Medal. The San Antonio native has participated in eight tournaments this year. He is second on the team with a 72.57 stroke average in 21 rounds, recording one top ten and four top 20 finishes. He had a season-best seventh-place finish at the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational. Meissner has recorded eight rounds of par or better and a team-high five rounds in the 60’s.

The Owls head to Texarkana, Ark., Apr. 23-26 for the Conference USA Men's Golf Championship.
