Rice will compete against a field which includes six nationally-ranked teams as well as regional rivals when the Owls begin play at the 2012 The Woodlands All-American Intercollegiate on Monday.
The 54-hole tournament will be played on the Tournament Course at The Woodlands Country Club (Par 72 / 7,208 Yards) next Monday and Tuesday. An 8:30 a.m. shotgun start to begin 36 holes of play is slated for Monday while Tuesday's final round will be played utilizing tee times off No. 1 and No. 10 beginning at 8 a.m.
The All-American Intercollegiate will serve as the final tournament before the Owls play in the Conference USA Championship at the end of the month.
Rice is one of four Conference USA schools set to compete in the 15-team tournament, joining host Houston along with SMU and Tulsa. Nationally-ranked teams set to compete at the All-American Intercollegiate are No. 10. Arkansas, No. 14. Texas A&M, No. 19 Clemson, Baylor and North Texas who are tied at No. 32 and No. 44 SMU.
Rice freshman Tommy Economou is coming off his first career Top 20 finish. Economou carded a two-over par 218 to finish in a tie for 18th at the Jim West Intercollegiate played this past week at the Victoria Country Club.
Economou has been the Owls' No. 1 or No. 2 finisher in each of the team's last three tournaments, lowering his season scoring average to 76.06 strokes.
Sophomore Jeff Wibawa continues to lead the team in stroke average at 72.78. Wibawa has four, Top 20 finishes this season including one win.
