After playing in the 54-hole Argent Financial Classic in North Louisiana earlier this week, Rice continues a full week of golf starting Friday as the Owls open play at the 2012 Border Olympics in Laredo.
The Owls finished ninth at the Louisiana Tech-hosted event which concluded on Tuesday. Now, the team travel to a tournament in which they had their best finish a year ago.
Last March now departed graduate Michael Whitehead shot a final-round 62 and finished with a three-round score of 197 to win individual honors by two strokes and lead the Owls to a fourth-place finish.
This year's tournament is slated for 36 holes at the Laredo Country Club (Par 72/7,125 Yards) on Friday with the final 18 holes set for Saturday morning.
The 16-team field includes Conference USA members Houston (host) and Southern Miss. Also competing will be Baylor, Eastern Michigan, Iowa State, Kansas, Lamar, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana-Lafayette, Mississippi State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas State, UTSA and VCU.
Rice sophomore Jeff Wibawa is coming off a 13th-place finish earlier this week at the Argent Financial Classic, carding a three-round, even-par 216. Rice freshman Tommy Economou tied for 35th at the tournament.
