Golf Stays In State for ORU/SFA Spring Break Challenge

HOUSTON -- Rice will play the first of two tournaments in the state of Texas on Mar. 12-14 when it travels to Dallas for the Spring Break Challenge, hosted by Oral Roberts and Stephen F. Austin. The tournament will be played at the par-71, 6,791-yard TPC Four Seasons.

TEAM FIELD

Joining Rice in the field is Abilene Christian, Central Arkansas, Cal State-Fullerton, Illinois State, Louisiana Tech, North Texas, Northern Colorado, Northern Iowa, co-host Oral Roberts, Southeastern Louisiana, co-host Stephen F. Austin, Texas State, Utah State, Utah Valley and Western Illinois. No. 7 Oklahoma and No. 11. Baylor will participate as individuals.

THE LINEUP

Mitchell Meissner - No. 1 position ... one of three golfers to participate in all seven events ... will play in the number one spot for the fourth time ... is second on the squad with a 72.24 stroke average ... has two top ten and four top 20 finishes ... has 10 rounds of par or better ... fired a season-low 68 in the second round of the Sam Hall Intercollegiate (9/11-12), where he tied for 13th-place ... tied for seventh-place at the Steelwood Collegiate Classic (10/28-29) ... had a season-best sixth-place tie at the Louisiana Classics (2/26-27).

Mario Carmona - No. 2 position ... one of three golfers to participate in all seven events ... will play in the number one spot for the fourth time ... leads the squad with a 72.05 stroke average ... has one top five, two ten and five top 20 finishes ... has a team-leading 13 rounds of par or better in 18 rounds ... fired a season-low 67 in the first round of the Bayou City Collegiate Classic (10/9-10) ... finished in fourth-place at the Classic with a career-best six-under par ... followed with a tie for seventh-place at the Steelwood Collegiate Classic (10/28-29).

Jake Benson - No. 3 position ... is making his sixth start ... averages 76.53 strokes per round ... has four rounds of par or better ... fired a 71 in the opening round of the Bayou City Collegiate Classic (10/9-10) ... had a season-best finish at the Querencia Cabo Intercollegiate (3/4-6), tying for 45th-place ... fired a season-low 68 in the first round of the tournament, his first career round in the 60's.

Rishi Kejriwal - No. 4 position ... is third on the squad with 74.39 strokes per round ... recorded three rounds of par or better ... saw first career action at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate (9/11-12) ... fired a season-low 68 in the final round of the Bayou City Collegiate Classic (10/9-10) ... earned a fifth-place finish at the Bayou City.

Nicholas Duggan - No. 5 position ... averages 76.00 strokes per round ... has three rounds of par or better...twice fired a season-low 70, at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate (9/11-12) and Bayou City Collegiate Classic (10/9-10) ... had a season-best finish at the Sam Hall, tying for 25th-place.

PAIRINGS

For Monday's first round, the Owls will tee off from holes 1 beginning at 10:10 a.m. CT. Rice will compete in groups with student-athletes from Cal State-Fullerton and Northern Colorado. Tuesday's tee times and pairings will depend on the results after Monday's first round and Wednesday's tee times and pairings will depend on results after the second round.

UP NEXT

Following the ORU/SFA Spring Break Challenge, the Owls will travel to San Antonio for the Lone Star Invitational on Mar. 19-20.
