CHOUDRANT, La. – Coming off a pair of top-six finishes to open the spring season in the Houston area, Rice University golf ventures out to Louisiana for the Argent Financial Classic on March 3-4, hosted by Louisiana Tech.
Along with Rice and the host, 11 other teams fill out the field, including Arkansas State, Central Arkansas, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana Monroe, Missouri State, New Orleans, North Texas, Sam Houston State, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas State and UALR. Rice holds a 4-7-1 record against those teams this season, having faced five of them in tournament play in 2013-14.
On the par-72, 7,105-yard Squire Creek Country Club course, the teams will play 18 holes on Monday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start, followed by the final round on Tuesday, with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. on the first and 10th holes. The event was originally scheduled for 54 holes, but was shortened due to weather concerns.
The Owls will begin play on Monday on the eighth through 11th tees in groups with Sam Houston State and Texas State. Competing individually, Joe Beck III (76.50 stroke avg.) will tee off from the 18th hole.

The tournament began in 2010 as the LA Tech Bulldog Classic and is now in its fifth consecutive year. The 2014 edition marks the Owls’ fourth trip to the event, having placed sixth in 2010 with a 951 (+51), ninth in 2011 with a 904 (+40) and ninth again in 2012 with a 909 (+45). Michael Whitehead posted Rice’s best individual finish at the event when he took sixth place in 2011 with a three-round total of 218 (+2).
