Freshman Kevin Reilly has been named the Conference USA Golfer of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday. The rookie placed ninth over the weekend at the Bayou City Collegiate Championship and helped the Owls to an outstanding finish in sixth place among several nationally ranked opponents.
Reilly notched a 71-71-69--211 (-5) at the event, marking a new three-round low score. He carded 10 birdies over 54 holes, including four in Sunday's final round. His 39 pars ranked in the top 10 of the strong national field and he posted a cumulative four-under on the event's par fives.
Sunday's team score of 280 (-8) was the lowest in more than five years as the Owls rallied from ninth place at the Golf Club of Houston's Tournament Course. Rice topped No. 14 South Florida as well as all three Conference USA foes at the event.
Reilly leads the Owls on the season with a 72.44 stroke average and three top-10 finishes. He becomes the first Owl to earn C-USA weekly honors since Jeff Wibawa in 2011.
The Owls play next at the Argent Financial Classic on March 3-4 in Choudrant, La.
