After having last weekend's Redstone Challenge postponed by inclement weather, Rice is set to begin the spring season on Monday when the Owls take part in the 15-team field UTSA Oak Hills Invitational.
The 54-hole tournament is slated for 36 holes on Monday with the final 18 holes played Tuesday at Oak Hills Country Club. Monday's play is set for an 8 a.m. shotgun start while Tuesday's final round will start with 7:30 a.m. tee times.
Played at Oak Hills Country Club (par 71/6,765 yards), the host of 24 PGA Tour events, the tournament field is highlighted by seven Texas teams including defending team champion Texas Tech along with Baylor and Houston. Other Texas teams competing are North Texas, Texas State and UTSA.
Rice returns to San Antonio for the first time since sophomore Jeff Wibawa registered his first collegiate victory at the Lone Star Invitational at Briggs Ranch. Wibawa was the Owls' low scorer during the fall season, averaging 71.67 strokes per round.
Rounding out the Owls' team for the first tournament is junior Brock Wilson, sophomore Chris Contreras and freshmen Joe Beck III and Ryan Benevides.
Benevides will make his collegiate debut at the San Antonio event next week. The balance of the Rice squad played in at least two events last year. Following next week's event, the Owls play host to the Rice Intercollegiate at Westwood Golf Club Feb. 20-21.
