LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Rice sophomore Jeff Wibawa shot a final round 77 to fall out of the Top 20 as the Owls closed out the 2011-12 fall season at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate hosted by New Mexico State.
Wibawa, who was one-under heading into the day, finished the tournament with a three-round score of 218 (+5) to tie for 30th.
The Owls shot a 902 for the tournament, including a 304 on Tuesday, to finish 14th at the tournament.
Behind Wibawa, sophomore James Hiester was the Owls' next finisher. Hiester, who was playing as an individual, shot a 73 on Tuesday to finish with a 54-hole, 225 total (+12) and tied for 57th.
No one made up any ground on second-round leader UNLV which won the tournament with a three-round score of 818 (-34). UNLV had three players finish in the tournament's Top 6 but Wichita State's Hunter Sparks fired a final round 66 to pace the tournament field and win the individual title with a 14-under par, three-round score of 199 (68-65-66).
Rice returns to action next February. The team will open the spring season at the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational Feb. 13-14 before playing host to the Rice Intercollegiate the following week.
