BATON ROUGE, La. – Battling windy conditions throughout Sunday’s final round, Rice University men’s golf held steady to shoot a second-straight 306 and move up to finish 11th at the David Toms Intercollegiate. The Owls carded a 303-306-306—915 (+51) at the par-72 University Club.
Freshman Kevin Reilly continued the strong start to his collegiate career with a 73-74-73—220 (+4) and tie for 15th place in the field of 69 golfers. The rookie notched eight birdies and his 35 pars ranked among the tournament leaders.
Joe Beck III started strong for Rice and was a steady presence throughout the weekend to finish 40th overall with a 75-76-77—228 (+12). Six of the junior’s seven birdies came over the final 36 holes. He was one-over-par on par-three holes for the weekend, tying him for 14th in the category.
Trey Johnson claimed 63rd with a 76-79-79—234 (+18), including three birdies. Landon Michelson improved his score each round and placed just behind with an 80-78-77—235 (+19). The senior notched four birdies at the event.
Alex Levy rounded out the squad with a 79-78-83—240 (+24) to finish 68th. The rookie notched four birdies at the tournament.
Southeastern Louisiana led wire-to-wire for a 16-stroke win at 860 (-4). Iowa State took second place with an 876 (+12). Host LSU placed seventh overall with an 894 (+30).
SELA’s Grady Brame claimed the individual medal with a 209 (-7), three strokes ahead of teammate Eamon Bradley.
Competing from Conference USA, Louisiana Tech took eighth place at 896 and Middle Tennessee finished 12th at 917.
Rice closes out its fall competition schedule on Oct. 27-29 at The Invitational at The Ocean Course on Kiawah Island, S.C.
