Scottsdale, Ariz. -- Rice shot a 15-over 303 to finish in ninth-place at 27-over par at the Maui Jim Invitational, played at the par-72, 7,203-yard Desert Forest Golf Club.
"Today was disappointing, but there are a lot of good takeaways from this tournament," said Rice head coach Justin Emil. "Desert golf is a whole different feeling and a great experience for the team. We'll bounce back quickly from this one."
Senior Mario Carmona fired his third straight even-par 72 to finish in a 12th-place tie. The 72 was his fourth round of par or better this year and the 33rd of his career and he now has 13 career top 20 finishes.
Senior Mitchell Meissner tied for 33rd-place after carding a final round 77 to finish seven-over par. Junior Grant Rogers finished 10-over par and tied for 40th-place after shooting a 77. Freshman Rishi Kejriwal tied for 50th-place after posting a final round 77 to finish 12-over par.
Arizona State won the tournament at seven-over par, one stroke in front of Georgia Tech. Arizona State's Alex Del Rey Gonzalez earned medalist honors, finishing 10-under par, three strokes in front of Lipscomb's Dawson Armstrong.
Rice returns to the links in two weeks when it co-hosts the Bayou City Collegiate Classic at Golfcrest Country Club, October 9-10.
