RALEIGH, N.C - The Rice men's golf team's magical postseason run came to an end on Saturday as the Owls posted a 15 over par round of 307 to finish 12th in the 2014 Raleigh NCAA Regional with a combined score of 886 (294-285-307 at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
"It was a tough day out there. Still proud of the progress this team has made. Something to build on," head coach Justin Emil tweeted out after the Owls completed their final round.
Freshman Kevin Reilly finished tied for 38th with a 76-66-78--220 (+7). In the final round, Reilly had one birdie to give him seven overall for the tournament. His 66 in the second round on Friday finished tied for the low round of the regional.
Senior Landon Michelson finished his final collegiate round with a 77 (+6). He finished tied for 49th with a 73-73-77--223 (+10). Michelson had three birdies in his final round, giving him five in the tournament.
Tommy Economou carded an 81 (+10) in his final round. The junior finished tied for 67th with a 69-77-81--227 (+14). Economou had one birdie in his final round, leaving him with seven over the three rounds.
Sophomore James Lee finished tied for 69th with a 76-74-78--228 (+15). Lee had three birdies in the final round to give him nine birdies in the tournament.
Freshman Alex Levy had the best final round for the Owls shooting a 74 (+3). Levy finished 71st with an 83-72-74--229 (+16). Levy had three birdies in his final round to also give him nine overall for the tournament.
No. 5 Georgia Tech won the regional with an 825 (-27) and will advance to the NCAA championship along with No. 8 Washington, No. 20 Texas A&M, No. 32 Kentucky, and No. 17 Florida State.
