Dallas, Texas — Rice enters the final round of the ORU/SFA Spring Break Challenge with a three-stroke lead, played at the par-71, 6,791-yard TPC Four Seasons.

The Owls carded an eight-over par 292 to sit nine-over par, three strokes in front of Conference USA foe North Texas.

Seniors Mitchell Meissner and Mario Carmona are tied for the individual lead at two-under par. Meissner fired his second straight 70 while Carmona carded a 72. It is Meissner’s 12th round of par or better this year and the 33rd of his career. He also tied a season-low with a 36-hole score of 140.

Sophomore Nicholas Duggan posted a three-over 74 to sit five-over par, tied for 15th-place tie. Freshmen Rishi Kejriwal and Jake Benson are tied for 27th and 53rd-place, respectively. Kejriwal posted a 79 to sit 11-over par while Benson is 12-over par after carding a 76.

“The golf course had some teeth today but we managed to carve out a decent round and keep the lead going into the final round,” said head coach Justin Emil. “It was a grind. Tomorrow is going to be a lot of fun, especially with Mario and Mitchell tied for the individual lead.”

The final round begins tomorrow at 8 a.m. CT. Rice will begin play at 9:40 p.m. and be paired with student-athletes from North Texas and Stephen F. Austin, teeing off from hole one.
