HUMBLE, Texas — Rice closed the All-American Intercollegiate with a one-over 289 to finish four-over par in 12th-place. The tournament was held at the par-72, 7,096-yard Golf Club of Houston.
Senior Mario Carmona posted a final round 73 to finish four-under par and tied for 17th-place. It is his fourth top 20 finish of the season and the 16th of his career.
Senior Mitchell Meissner fired a one-under par 71 to tie for 28th-place at two-under par. It is his sixth round of par or better this year and the 27th of his career. His 54-hole score of 214 was a season-low.
Junior Mason Weld had his best day as an Owl, carding a one-under 71. It was his first round under par. The Helotes, Texas native finished five-over par in a 62nd-place tie.
Sophomore Nicholas Duggan tied for 71st-place at eight-over par after posting a 74. Junior Grant Rogers carded a 74 to finish nine-over par in a 76th-place tie while freshman Rishi Kejriwal tied for 86th-place at 13-over par after posting a 74.
“The guys didn’t play bad,” said Rice head coach Justin Emil. “We just didn’t get a lot of putts to fall. The golf course was there for the taking and we missed a lot of opportunities. But I’m encouraged by the team and how they handled themselves. We played pretty consistent golf for three straight rounds and they all left here feeling pretty encouraged about their game.”
No. 10 Auburn won the tournament at 38-under par, 15 strokes in front of No. 48 Ole Miss. No. 3 Baylor finished third at 22-under par, No. 30 South Carolina (-21) finished fourth and Houston (-16) took fifth.
South Carolina’s Keenan Huskey earned medalist honors at 15-under par, two strokes in front of defending NCAA individual champion Braden Thornberry of Ole Miss.
Rice returns to the links February 26-27 when it travels to Lafayette, La., for the Louisiana Classics.
