Mario Carmona Leads Owls at All-American

HUMBLE, Texas — Senior Mario Carmona fired a four-under par 68 to sit in a tie for fifth-place after one round of the All-American Intercollegiate, played at the par-72, 7,096-yard Golf Club of Houston.

Carmona carded four birdies and 14 pars on the day. The 68 was Carmona’s ninth round of par or better this year and the 38th of his career. It is also his third round in the 60’s this season and the 10th of his career.

The Houston native is three-strokes off the lead, held by Auburn’s Brandon Mancheno.

Senior Mitchell Meissner is tied for 31st-place after carding a one-under par 71. It is his fourth round of par or better this year and the 25th of his career.

Junior Grant Rogers began the tournament with a three-over par 75 to tie for 70th-place. Junior Mason Weld is tied for 78th-place at four-over par after posting a 76.

Sophomore Nicholas Duggan (t87) posted a six-over 78 and freshman Rishi Kejriwal (t97), playing as an individual, carded an eight-over par 80.

No. 10 Auburn and Houston lead the tournament at 14-under par, two strokes in front of No. 48 Ole Miss. Rice is tied for 11th-place at two-over par with conference foe UTSA.

The second round begins tomorrow with Rice teeing off at 8:30 a.m. from Hole #10. The Owls are paired with SMU and UTSA.
