Rice junior linemen Scott Mitchell and Scott Solomon were both named to the 2009 C-USA All Conference second team as selected by a vote of the league's head coaches. The results of the voting were released by the conference office on Tuesday.

In addition to Mitchell and Solomon earning spots on the second team, OG Davon Allen, KAT Travis Bradshaw, OG Jake Hicks, DE Cheta Ozougwu and SAF Andrew Sendejo all earned honorable mention recognition.

Mitchell started all 12 games for the Owls in 2009, eight at left tackle and four on the right side after injuries hit the Owls offensive line. He has made 30 consecutive starts since making his debut for the Owls in 2007.

Solomon led C-USA defensive linemen in tackles, finishing the season with a career-high 63. He tied for fifth in the league with .54 sacks per game (a career best 6.5), and tied for eighth in the league with .88 tackles for loss per game (10.5 total). He moved into fourth on the Rice career list with 15.5 sacks.

Bradshaw led the nation in unassisted tackles, averaging 7.5 per game, while he finished fourth in Conference USA with an average of 10.1 tackles per game. He finished the year with 121 tackles, which tied Larry Izzo for eighth on the Rice single-season list. He posted seven double-figure tackle games, including six consecutive to end the season. Ozougwu was second to Solomon among C-USA defensive linemen with a career-best 61 tackles. He tied with Solomon for eighth in the league with .88 tackles for loss per game and also collected a career-high 4.5 sacks.

Sendejo was the NCAA active career leader in unassisted tackles at the time his Rice career was cut short by an injury in the seventh game of the year at ECU. He closed out his career tied for second on the Owls' career tackle list with 318.

Allen started all 12 games for the Owls at left guard in his first season as a starter. Hicks missed five games in the middle of the season with an injury before returning to the lineup as the Owls won two of their last three games. He will enter his junior season with 17 career starts.
