Two members of the Rice football coaching staff will not return for the 2012 season, head coach David Bailiff announced on Monday. Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator Chuck Driesbach and Recruiting Coordinator/Running Back Coach Rick LaFavers were informed by Bailiff that they will not be retained.
"I appreciate everything that Chuck and Rick have done for Rice over the past five seasons," Bailiff said. "But after evaluating the program, I felt that we needed to make some changes in order to move the program forward."
Driesbach and LaFavers both came to Rice as part of Bailiff's initial coaching staff in 2007. Driesbach coached the Owls linebackers for his first three seasons before switching to safeties in 2010. LaFavers originally coached the Owls' tight ends as well as coordinating special teams, before switching to coaching the running backs and coordinating Rice's recruiting efforts in 2010.
