Oct. 25, 2012
Houston - Though Rice University's Centennial Celebration has officially concluded, the festivities continue for the Owl football squad as it hosts Southern Miss at noon on Saturday at Rice Stadium.
Rice Athletics has teamed up with 42 Houston-area schools for its annual "School Days" promotion, which honors students for good grades and perfect attendance. On Saturday, students at schools representing Conroe, Klein, HISD and Pearland will be in attendance as a reward for their hard work in the classroom.
Each participating school received a Rice "School Days" kit, including tickets, flags, and a video invitation from Rice players as part of the initiative. Some of the schools have held Rice pep rallies in anticipation of the event, which is sponsored through the Rice 100 Program.
Rice Athletics is joining the city of Houston in celebrating Navy Week on Saturday. The United States Navy's Leap Frogs Parachute Team, will perform a pregame jump into Rice Stadium to deliver the game ball, weather permitting.
Due to the jump, the field will be cleared with 10 minutes remaining before kickoff. Fans will be allowed to enter the playing field for the spirit line only after the jumpers have landed in the stadium.
