Rice junior offensive lineman Andrew Reue has been named to Phil Steele's midseason All-Conference USA first team, which was announced on Friday. Reue's teammate on the offensive line, Matt Simonette was named to the second team and was defensive end Brian Nordstrom.
Reue has started every game at right guard this season, but has also taken snaps at tackle during the first six games of the 2014 campaign as the Owls have rushed better than 200 yards per game and averaged 425 yard per game in total offense. He earned All C-USA honorable mention honors last season despite missing most of the last five games because of an injury.
A pair of former walk-ons, Simonette and Nordstrom have become key contributors for the defending C-USA Champions.
Simonette was named one of two co-captains (along with safety Gabe Baker) in a vote of his teammates prior to the season and prior to his first career start in the season-opener at Notre Dame.
Nordstrom also made his starting debut at Notre Dame and has been a dominant presence through six games. Half of his 18 tackles this season have resulted in losses and he leads the team with 8.5 tackles for loss and three sacks.
The Owls will take this Saturday off before returning to C-USA action on October 25 when they host North Texas. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. and the game has been designated as Kids Day at Rice Stadium, with free tickets available for youths with the purchase of an adult ticket.
