Nwosu Nabs Special Teams Honor
C-USA Special Teams Player of the Week
Sept. 3, 2012
Rice linebacker Cameron Nwosu was named the first Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week, on the strength of his three blocked extra point attempts in the Owls' season opening loss to UCLA last Thursday night. C-USA Football Players of the Week are voted on each Monday by a panel of the league's media.
Nwosu tied the NCAA record for blocked PATs in the first quarter of the game, foiling each of the Bruins first two attempts. He broke the mark with his third blocked kick just before the end of the first half. Nwosu also picked off the first pass of his career in addition to tying with fellow linebacker Kyle Prater for the team lead with nine tackles.
Nwosu and the Owls will hit the road for the first time in 2012 when they take on the Kansas Jayhawks this Saturday at 2:30. The game will be broadcast nationally on FSN, with Joel Meyers, Brian Baldinger and Jim Knox on the call.
