Rice football fans who have been eagerly anticipating the start of the 2015 college football season will find a number of improvements and enhancements to Rice Stadium when the Owls kick off the campaign on Saturday against the Wagner Seahawks at 2:30 p.m.
“Once again, we have heard the voice of our fans and acted,” said Rice Senior Associate Athletics Director / Chief Revenue Officer Tanner Gardner. “We heard loud and clear from our surveys a desire for improvements in sound, concession offerings, and merchandise selection, and I’m confident fans will be pleased with our upgrades.”
After enjoying the variety of tailgating options which were outlined last week, Owl fans will enter the stadium to be greeted by an improved sound system, as well as a bevy of new concession offerings. Fans can look forward to new concessionaires Amy’s Ice Creams and the Houston Gumbo Shop in addition to returning favorites Prince’s Hamburgers and Chick-Fil-A, who are offering expanded menu selections.
The Roost, which has been a popular gathering spot for fans who want to enjoy alcoholic beverages along with their football, has been moved to the upper west side of the stadium to be closer to a majority of the Rice fans . It will now be located in sections 204-205.
The Rice Bookstore is expanding its footprint in the stadium, with multiple locations offering an expanded assortment of Rice apparel and accessories for fans of all ages. The new locations include the south end zone just west of the R Room, on the east concourse by the southeast ramp and in the upper west concourse.
Finally, a new family area has been designated in and around section 107 which will include the Rice Owls Kids Zone. This popular area will once again feature inflatable games and face painting along with new contests and themes, all while enjoying the shade of the concourse.
Tickets for the home opener and as well as all six 2015 Rice Owls football games are on sale online as well as at the Rice Owls Tudor Fieldhouse Ticket Office or by calling 713 348-OWLS.
