by Chuck Pool (firstname.lastname@example.org) - Rice and Prairie View will get an early start to the 2018 football season when the two schools meet on August 25 at Rice Stadium.
The 2018 opener will mark the earliest the Owls have opened a football season surpassing this season’s opener against Stanford on August 26 in Sydney, Australia.
The addition of the game gives the Owls a second non-conference home game on the 2018 schedule, joining Houston on September 1 in addition to four conference games vs. Old Dominion, UAB, UTSA and UTEP.
It will mark the first time the Owls have opened a season with consecutive games at home since 1995 when they opened with a 38-0 shutout of UNLV on September 2 and then lost to Tulane 17-15 on September 16.
This will be the second meeting in history between the two schools, with Rice taking a 65-44 Homecoming win last year, as well as the second meeting in history with a school from the SWAC.
