As the kickoff to the third annual Fan Fest at Rice Stadium, the Rice Owls held their second scrimmage of their 2017 training camp on a steamy Saturday in Houston.
In the nearly two hours of activity, the Owls offense and defense battled in a number of scenarios, including goal line and two-minute drills, with the offense converting on a total of eight opportunities for touchdowns while the defense forced five turnovers and turned one into a score when true freshman safety George Nyakwol scooped up a fumble and returned it 60 yards for the longest play of the day.
V'.J. Banks picked off one pass, broke up another and recovered a fumble to lead the defense. Cole Thomas added a second interception while Blain Padgett joined Banks and Nyakwol with a fumble recovery.
The schedule for the remaining week of training camp will shift slightly this week with the start of O Week on campus, leading up to their departure for Sydney, Australia on August. 20.
