LOS ANGELES -- The USC football team will host the Rice Owls in a non-conference home game in 2022, Trojan athletic director Pat Haden announced today.
The Trojans will meet the Owls of Conference USA on Sept. 3, 2022, in the Coliseum. It will be the teams’ first meeting since 1971 and the third time in the series that the Owls have traveled to California for the matchup.
The two schools first met on October 4, 1947 in a game that marked the Owls first trip to the West Coast in which the teams battled to a 7-7 draw. The two played again the following year, with the Trojans taking a 7-0 decision.
USC made its only trip to Rice Stadium in 1971 when the Trojans were ranked 17th in the nation.
