HOUSTON – Senior running back Darik Dillard was named to the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List while also being named as a nominee for the 25th annual Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.
Dillard is one of 88 players to be named to the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List and is one of 165 nominees to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.
The Wuerffel Trophy, known as “College Football’s Premier Award for Community Service,” is presented annually by the All Sports Association in Fort Walton Beach Florida. Named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Danny Wuerffel from the University of Florida, the Wuerffel Trophy is awarded to the FBS player that best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.
The Allstate AFCA Good Works Teams® were established in 1992 by the College Football Association, recognizing the extra efforts made by college football players and student support staff off the field. AFCA became the governing body of the award in 1997 and continues to honor college football players who go the extra mile for those in need. Allstate worked to present the award starting with the 2008 season.
Dillard and the Owls will open the 2016 season on September 1 at defending C-USA Champion WKU at 7 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.
