Luke Willson and Chris Boswell lead a list of five Rice Owls who have been named to Dave Campbell's Texas Football's preseason All Texas College team as part of its 2012 edition that is now on sale.
Willson and Boswell were named to the first team, while center Nate Richards, linebacker Cameron Nwosu and safety Corey Frazier were named to the second team.
This is Willson's second consecutive year to appear on the magazine's preseason team. He was a member of the 2011 team and validated that selection by being named to their postseason edition after catching 29 passes for 313 yards and three touchdowns.
Boswell was a first team All C-USA pick by Rivals.com, second team by Phil Steele and Honorable Mention selection by C-USA coaches after tying the school record with 17 field goals. He converted on 17 of 21 field goals on the season. His .810 percentage ranks third on the Rice season chart and his .737 career mark (28/38) ranks second. He led the team in scoring with 82 points this season, the ninth-best mark in school history. He also handled kickoffs last season, averaging 63.1 on 59 kickoffs and doubled the Owls' touchbacks from seven in 2010 to 14 last year.
Richards will make his debut at center with the Owls this fall after transferring from Trinity Valley Community College in January. Originally signed by Central Arkansas out of Keller High School he earned JC All America honors at Trinity Valley last fall.
Nwosu was a third-team All C-USA pick by Phil Steele and an honorable mention pick by league coaches after leading the team finishing sixth in C-USA with 108 tackles while also returning a pair of fumbles for touchdowns. He was the first Rice linebacker to top 100 tackles in a season since Brian Raines in 2006.
Frazier as a member of DCTF's preseason first team last year and finished the year sixth on the team with 46 tackles.
