Fans of Rice Football will be able to enjoy a majority of the 2018 home schedule in the daylight hours and follow the Owls C-USA road games at night as Conference USA confirmed kickoff times for the upcoming season with the release of its 2018 broadcast schedule on Thursday.
Game times for nonconference road games with Wake Forest, Hawai'i and LSU will be released at a later date.
Four of the Owls six home games will kick off during the daytime, including three of four conference meetings, while three of four road games are set to kickoff under the lights.
The Owls open the 2018 season by hosting Prairie View A&M at 6 p.m. on August 25, and the game will be the first for a C-USA team on ESPN's new subscription streaming service, ESPN+, the first of seven appearances for the Owls on the new platform.
Conference USA Commissioner Judy MacLeod announced a new multi-year contract with ESPN on Thursday. The agreement triples ESPN's inventory of C-USA events from the previous deal to include more than 175 events on ESPN+ and ESPN3 for the upcoming 2018-19 season. More than 100 of those games, including 45 football contents, will air on the newly launched ESPN+ -- the first multi-sport, direct-to-consumer subscription streaming service from The Walt Disney Company Direct-to-Consumer and International Segment in conjunction with ESPN.
After three games on the road, the Owls return to Rice Stadium on October 6 to host UTSA at 6 p.m. on ESPN 3. The Owls will twice kickoff at noon (UAB on October 13 & ODU on November 24) with coverage on both by ESPN+ and celebrate Homecoming on November 3 by hosting UTEP at 2:30 p.m. with coverage provided by ESPN3.
The Owls will play at night on the road with 6 p.m. kickoffs at Southern Miss (September 29) and Louisiana Tech (November 11) and 6:30 p.m. at FIU (October 20). Their lone daytime road date in conference comes on October 27 when they meet North Texas at 3 p.m. All four C-USA road games will be available on ESPN+.
Conference USA's 2018 confirmed schedule features games to air nationally by all five of the league's primary partners and every C-USA football game is expected to be available on traditional linear television or via streaming and social media.
The 2018 C-USA Championship game on Saturday, Dec. 1 will air on CBS Sports Network at a time to be determined.
ESPN is scheduled to carry all six of C-USA's bowl games in which it has a guaranteed selection.
