Rice senior kicker Chris Boswell was named to Phil Steele's Preseason All-American Second Team, the publication announced today. Boswell is one of three C-USA players selected as All-America by Phil Steele.
Boswell set the Rice single-season and career records for field goals made and kick scoring in 2012, making 23 field goals and scoring 114 points. He led the nation with six 50+ yard field goals, and was six of eight from that distance over the course of the season.
He delivered on two clutch field goals in 2012, nailing a game-winning 45-yard field goal at Kansas as time expired, to give Rice a 25-24 win, and sinking a 23-yard game-tying field goal against Marshall to send the game into overtime.
Against SMU, Boswell set the Rice single-game record with five field goals, three of which were from beyond 50 yards, making him only the sixth kicker in FBS history to make that many field goals from 50+ yards in a single game.
Rice opens the 2013 football season on Aug. 31 at Texas A&M.
