The opening game of the 2017 college football season between Rice and Stanford in Sydney, Australia on August 26 has been picked up for broadcast by ESPN. The announcement was made by Conference USA as part of their release of the selections by their broadcast partners on Thursday.
The second annual Sydney Cup, featuring the Owls and Cardinal at Allianz Stadium in Sydney will be broadcast on either ESPN or ESPN2 with a final determination made this summer. Kickoff is set for 9 p.m. (central).
Additional Conference USA football television exposures through other league television partners, as well as select non-conference road games that will air on other conferences television packages will be released as soon as they are finalized.
Rice will close out its 2017 spring practice schedule on Friday with the annual Blue-Gray game at Rice Stadium. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m.
